Four Seasons Gardening

The Four Seasons Workshop Series by Zanna Ceesay

This workshop series teaches homeowners and gardeners alike how to steward their land year-round.

Participants will learn how to create habitat in their yard and regenerate their soil through cycling yard “waste” (such as branches, leaves, grass clippings, etc.) on site. We will learn about closing the loop on the inputs and outputs generated in the habitat for healthy, nutrient dense soil. The how and why are all included.

Subjects covered include:

  • the carbon cycle and the role of primary decomposers

  • the importance of microorganisms in the soil and what they need throughout the seasons

  • resource management techniques

  • building a deep mulch bed (aka sheet mulch bed, hugelmulch, lasagna gardening…)

  • planting in this type of garden bed

  • how to install a drip irrigation system

  • maintenance of garden beds during growing season (perennial/pollinator beds and annual/vegetable beds)

  • “weeding” and chop and drop techniques

  • how to prepare the beds for winter to best support the habitat that has been created.

Plant identification and access to the LSI plant nursery is a part of all workshops.

The next workshop is Sunday April 14 2-4pm at LSI. Register Now!
