Practical Rules

Building GardensIn the discussion of how we will establish clearly defined boudaries it was necessary to outline the general pattern of interactions.  This discussion will rely on that outline as we discuss how the gardening teams and cooking teams will determine practical rules for who contributes to the development and maintenance of the resource and who can draw the production from the resource.  As discussed, each team will have exclusive authority over who can be a team member and how money generated by the team will be spent.
 

Each team will have a set of tasks that will need to be performed in order to meet their obligations to their clients.  These tasks will be allocated among the members by mutual agreement.   If the team is growing and bringing on new members, there will be experienced members who will have more authority and less experienced members "in training".  There will also be general tasks that every team member does and special tasks such as equipment maintenance and bookkeeping for example that will be assigned to members with special skills.  It will be up to the team to allocate the cash received from the team's clients.  Some amount will need to be invested in the business, some amount will be spent on outside suppliers and service providers (insurance, legal and accounting) and the rest will be allocated among the partners.  If the team invests in housing, learning opportunities, and a healthy life style, the amount each team member would need to receive in cash is reduced. 

Investments that will benefit more than one team would require teams to negotiate how they will share the expense.  Examples might be sharing a bookkeeping service or buying a property where members from multiple teams could live, store their equipment, or produce other parts of what they need to thrive for themselves.

Teams that provide good service to their clients will be in a position to take on new partners and thereby new clients.  A gardening team that delivers its produce to a cooking team and recieves meals in return has an incentive to fulfill their agreements with the cooking team.  A cooking team that receives produce from a gardening team in exchange for meals also has the incentive to fulfill their agreements.
